Mood: waiting for wind
19th July 2009
Windsurfing: Eastbourne - Spray
Wind Direction: WSW
Wind Stength: 20 knots and then some
Surf / Sea State: lumpy :-)
Air Temperature: toasty
Sea Temperature: fine
Weather: Sunny & 4.7m windy !!
Max Speed:
Distance Covered:

Eastbourne Extreme .... opening event for ION Man was North One Hour Classic.
Cunning plan for organiser to be able to sail for a bit .. helmet cam plan ;-)
Basically started them all off on 4.5m - 5.5m rigs for an hours of long distance figure of 8 racing, then hopped on my Hawk 123 and 5.9m Duke so I could cruise around and video them with helmet cam.
Took some time out sat on board at gybe marks for some action shots, and spent a decent amount of time sailing sheeted out to film folks blasting about ..... though did overtake someone while sailing sheeted out and filming which was a little embarrassing ... LOL.
Sea state well lumpy with some decent swell visiting Eastbourne ....

After we'd done the One Hour, the racers were given chance to free-sail or recover for ION Man round two, depending on their level of commitment ;-)

Good chance for me to steal some of Nik's kit, and took the 2010 Freewave 95 out with 5.3m Ego for a quick spin. Wind had filled in more still, and again was over boarded with too big a sail ... whatever, still had some fun and the new shape felt really nice, much looser feeling than the 2009 version i borrowed last September, which seemed more directional, and speed orientated.

Started me thinking again on 2010 options ... doh !!

Back to ION Man organising and after some BBQ scoff with Nik and some of the ION Men, we launched them, literally into a jump-off round ....

Pleased with how the day went .... and real happy everyone enjoyed the competition, some more than they thought they would
